Beatles Album Sales Hits 450,000 On iTunes

the_beatlesWhile it may not have been ‘a day to remember’ for some, the announcement of The Beatles catalogue on iTunes has apparently had some effect.  After only one week, Apple sold 450,000 albums and 2 million songs of all things Fab Four!

If you’ll recall, Apple announced last week exclusive access to digital sales of the Beatles’ catalogue, which included a digital box set containing 13 studio albums, a two-volume ‘Past Masters’ compilation and the concert film ‘Live at the Washington Coliseum, 1964.’

The report by Billboard breaks it down further, saying that Apple sold 119,000 albums in the US, which included 13,000 digital box sales (those count as a single album in the US numbers; the global numbers seem to be counting each box set segment as an individual album sale).

1969’s ‘Abbey Road’ came out on top as the best selling album in the US, with the top selling song being from the same album, ‘Here Comes the Sun.’

Not only did Apple devote its website to the iTunes Beatles announcement, but they are also running  a rampant marketing effort that consists of a featured placement on iTunes in addition to TV ads that have aired during primetime programming, like ABCs American Music Awards and NBCs Sunday Night Football.
